Cortical Technology is the breakthrough enabling The Board to transform the archaic Internet into The Spirit, a means of mass human control as pleasant as it is comprehensive, and addictive. The Board's control might be assured, if not for Vires—natural psychics whose powers have been magnified by Cortical Technology. Vires threaten The Board's control, but at the same time offer a means of fully embedding that control. If even one Vire could be swayed into working for The Board.... Obsession with Vires twists The Board into using their premier ships, Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka, to transport Vire's to the planet Bezel, where in paradise safely away from The Spirit, they hope to seduce one into aiding The Board. When Alnitak, carrying four Vires, disappears en route to Bezel, The Board's obsession turns to panic over the prospect of Vires on the loose with such a ship. Sara is the First Officer of Mintaka. Her secret is amazing, especially considering how rare secrets have become since The Spirit. Mintaka is transporting three Vires to Bezel, Boolean, Aurelian, and Bird. They're about halfway to Bezel when Alnitak's beacon is suddenly picked up from the planet Procyon 2. Surveyor drones have listed Procyon 2 as lifeless. Oxygen/nitrogen atmosphere, but very marginally habitable because of severe solar radiation. Actually, there is life on Procyon 2, elusive, and fantastically evolved even before the enormous alien cylinders provided the ultimate intellectual boost that led to Procyon 2's energy spiders. They trapped Alnitak, and Mintaka seems next. All Vires that The Board has captured so far are men. This is the heart of Sara's secret, and only her teaming up with the three prisoners on Mintaka offers any hope of communicating with Procyon 2's Roses.... Voices of Vires is a story of humane intelligence versus wealthy elitists bent on control of every essence of humanity. A story of love persevering amid power lust, incredible technology and extreme evolution. |
